New years resolutions are a normal tradition for most people. For the sake of this email, I googled the most common NYE resolutions. According to inc.com they are the following;

  • Change eating habits

  • Exercise more

  • To quit smoking

  • Improve financial situation

  • Learn a hobby

Now I don't think I need to highlight that a fairly hefty amount of people that set these goals, won't achieve them. In my opinion, the reason boils down to these two things.

Lack of direction/planning
It's easy to say 'I'm going to be fitter next year'... but what does that mean? I ask people that and often I get a reply that makes them question it because they don't even know.

How are you going to get "fitter"?
What is going to get in my way of getting "fit"?
How long should it realistically take?
Do I need professional help?
Which of my personal traits will I need to change?

Without knowing the answers to the questions like these, often people are throwing their wishes in the wind and hoping for the best.

No major drive or reason to achieve
Honestly... Do you even want to do what you've said you want to do?
Have you ever been invited to a party you don't really want to go to? You end up going and it's exactly what you thought it would be like. After about an hour I'm certainly bailing.
You need to find a true, important reason as to why you're setting these specific goals. When times start to get tough, you'll be able to reflect on the important reasons.

I want to see each any every one of you achieve the goals you set. Please don't hesitate to ask for a hand (fitness or not).
